Before undergoing a permanent makeup procedure, there are several important factors that customers should consider to ensure they are prepared and achieve the best possible results.

Health and Medical Conditions

Consultation: Always have a consultation before the procedure to discuss any health concerns.

Medical Conditions: Certain conditions may prevent you from having permanent makeup, such as uncontrolled diabetes, blood clotting disorders, or skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis in the treatment area.

Medications: Inform the artist about any medications or supplements you're taking, especially blood thinners, as they can affect the healing process.

Pregnancy/Nursing: Most artists recommend avoiding permanent makeup during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to potential risks with healing and pigment absorption.

SKIN TYPE CONSIDERATION

  • Oily vs. Dry Skin: People with oily skin may experience faster fading or a slightly less defined result, especially with eyebrow procedures like microblading. Powder brows or nano hairstrokes may be better suited for oily skin.

  • Scarring: If you have a history of keloids or scarring, discuss this with your artist, as it may affect the outcome or eligibility for the procedure.

  • Tanning: Avoid sun exposure or tanning prior to the procedure, as this can affect pigment retention and healing

Preparation Instructions

  • Avoid Certain Products/Medications: For at least 24-48 hours before the procedure, avoid alcohol, caffeine, and medications like aspirin or ibuprofen, as they can thin the blood and cause excess bleeding during the procedure.

  • No Botox or Fillers: Avoid Botox or dermal fillers in the area at least 2-3 weeks before the procedure, as they can alter the natural shape of your face or lips.

  • Stop Retinol/Acids: Discontinue use of skincare products containing retinol, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), and other exfoliating acids in the area 1-2 weeks before the procedure.

  • Hydration: Keep your skin well-hydrated leading up to the procedure, but avoid heavy moisturizers on the day of treatment

Realistic Expectations

  • Understand the Process: Permanent makeup typically requires more than one session. A follow-up touch-up is often needed 6-8 weeks after the initial procedure to perfect the color and shape.

  • Fading Over Time: Permanent makeup will fade over time and usually lasts between 1-3 years, depending on factors like skin type, lifestyle, and sun exposure.

  • Healing Process: The initial color will appear darker and bolder than the final result, and there may be some swelling or flaking as the area heals

Aftercare Commitment

  • Healing Time: The healing process takes several days to weeks, depending on the procedure. During this time, you’ll need to follow specific aftercare instructions to avoid infection and ensure proper healing.

  • Avoid Makeup and Skincare Products: You’ll need to avoid applying makeup, skincare products, and excessive water to the treated area during the healing period.

  • Sun Protection: Sun exposure can cause fading and discoloration of the pigment, so wearing sunscreen and avoiding direct sunlight is crucial post-procedure.

Allergic Reactions And Patch Test

  • Patch Test: Some artists may recommend a patch test to check for allergic reactions to the pigment.

  • Sensitive Skin: If you have sensitive skin, discuss with your artist to ensure the pigments and numbing agents used won’t cause irritation or allergic reactions.

Maintenance and Touch-ups

  • Long-term Commitment: Permanent makeup requires periodic touch-ups to maintain the color and shape. Fading is natural and happens over time, especially with sun exposure or certain skin care routines.

  • Cost of Touch-ups: Consider the long-term cost, as touch-ups may be required every 1-2 years to keep the look fresh.

Choose the Right Procedure for Your Needs

  • Style and Look: Make sure you fully understand the procedure you're getting (e.g., microblading, powder brows, lip blush, eyeliner) and what the final results will look like. Each technique has a different outcome in terms of boldness, texture, and longevity.

  • Longevity: Consider how long each procedure lasts and how it might change over time.

By considering these factors and having an open discussion with your artist, you’ll be better prepared for your permanent makeup procedure, increasing the chances of a successful outcome that meets your expectations.
